Digital Breakup

Freeview Services from the Hastings Transmitter

Some areas are suffering from picture breakup or even total loss picture from the Hastings transmitter in the Eastbourne and surrounding area.

Through the summer of 2010 we have found that co-channel interference has been causing some annoying picture breakup & even total loss of picture through out the day. This has increased during late afternoon to early evening, we have found from carrying out testing at different locations in the Eastbourne area that we are experiencing co-channel interference from French & Dutch transmitters.  This is due to unusual skip distances caused by high pressure, unfortunately this can’t be filtered out or prevented as it is a quirk of the way UHF terrestrial signals propagate.

We therefore recommend that you bear this in mind prior to buying or altering your aerial to the Hastings transmitter, and remember that Hastings transmitter is not the designated transmitter for most of Eastbourne. We are expecting to realign aerials which are being put on to Hastings during switch over to give optimum performance.

Co-Channel interference

We have been informed that out of area foreign Transmitters are due to turn they’re output up before 2012 as planned, if this is carried out it will cause increased risk of picture breakup (possibly early 2011).
